Even oatmeal. I'm not talking about the instant kind. I'm talking the simmer it on top of your stove using water or milk (I choose water because I always manage to boil over the milk) method. And not those mamby pamby rolled oats. No. You gotta get the steel cut oats. Yep. Honestly, I don't know why that makes such a difference but it does. The steel cut oats are "meatier" and tastier. It's true. Don't believe me, test it. I usually add some trail mix to mine; seeds, nuts, dried fruit. Yummy.
What else are we missing because we are in a hurry? Slow down today and see if you don't discover something wonderful.

The Big Girl Bed
Sarah: "I no want it, nap."
And because she is so cute and cuddly and fun to play with, there are days when I want to let her stay up. But, Mommy brain reminds me that tired babies are not fun. So she goes to the playpen where she cannot get out so that she will settle in and rest a while. Sometimes she seems older than almost two to me.
I Did It!
Yeah! In my efforts to have less stuff in the house I finished a craft project this weekend using what I had! My cousin had her baby a couple of weeks early. I was able to give her a gift by finding a blanket I had crocheted but never finished (i.e. tucking in all the ends). So, I used one ball of yarn I already had in my stash to add a pretty pink border and finished the ends and voila! A nice handmade gift that didn't cost me a dime, at least not this weekend. That's a little something Jon likes to call "sunk costs." Meaning that it's money you've spent, you're not getting it back, therefore, make use of the resources. I am quite pleased with my efforts.

You Should Watch Sesame Street
If you haven't watched Sesame Street in a while because you don't have toddler aged kids, you my friend, are missing out. Recent really awesome pieces have been "Pre-School Musical" and
"Law and Order - Special Letters Unit." Today I saw "30 Rocks." If you don't want to spend the time to watch the entire show, you should go to youtube and find them. So funny. Sarah and I both were laughing out loud.

What If . . . ?
What if . . . we didn't go back to the ways we've always done things?
What if . . . we all lived in houses we could afford?
What if . . . we all spent less money than we made?
What if . . . we supported our local economies rather than buying everything cheaply at Wal Mart?
What if . . . we bought food from local farmers who grow produce and meat using truly sustainable methods?
What if . . . I use all of the craft supplies I have in my house before I go to buy more?
What if . . . I use all of the food in the cupboard before I go to buy more?
What if . . . we grow gardens in our yards, thereby requiring that less lawn be mowed?
What if . . . we all used manual lawn mowers?
What if . . . we all let the rain water our lawns?
What if . . . some of the currently unemployed were able to pursue creative careers?
What if . . . medicine focused on wellness rather than sickness?
What if . . . there was a grocery store I could walk to?
I'm just sayin'.
