Our food is killing us
I'm on a food rant this week folks. Above we have Robyn O'Brien talking about the food industry in America.
Below we have Jack Lalanne talking about Sugarholics.
Why are we doing this to ourselves?
Profit. Listen to Robin talk about the business models. "They make perfect sense."
We're sacrificing our nation's health and wellness for profitability of our largest corporations.
What will it take to make us stop? I have no idea.
What am I going to do about it? Not sure yet but I'm working on it. One meal choice at a time.

Who are "working families?"
I'm tired. I'm tired of wondering when the Democrats will return to Indiana.
I'm tired of trying to figure out what the real issues are, since to really understand it all you have to read the actual proposed legislation and those are confusing at best.
I'm tired of reading articles in the newspapers that don't make sense. I'm tired of reading articles about the Democrats being referred to as "exiled." Please. Look up that word if you don't understand why that's a problem for me. They've not been forced to leave. As a matter of fact, many people will be quite pleased when they return.
Today, I'm mostly tired of not being included in the term "working family."
So, when the Democrats say they are fighting for "working families" does that mean that they are fighting only for working union families? Because our family isn't a member of any union.
Jon goes to work five days a week most weeks. He's been at his current job ten years this month. I own my own business. We work. Don't we count?
Language is important. The way we use our words matters. I'm tired of being ignored.

Sick as Dogs
What did you do this weekend?
Jon and I were sick as dogs. (Where did that saying even come from? How sick ARE dogs, anyway?) Nana was nice enough to come and take our kids out for dinner so they could at least leave the house for a little while.
Thankfully, we are both at least well enough to go back to work and full-time-moming now that Monday has rolled around. Good news since Monday came whether we were ready for it or not.
So this morning Jason was sick, I'll spare you the icky details. If you see him, he won't. He'll be happy to tell you exactly how he was sick and what came out where. That's my boy.
And this morning I took Sarah to the doctor where we confirmed that she has an ear infection.
Here's hoping that Evan can withstand the ickies that are making their way through our house.
That was our weekend and Monday. I truly hope yours was better.

Service With a Smile
I don't pull forward in the drive-thru.
There. I said it.
Lady in Window: I need you to pull forward because it's going to be a few minutes on your chicken.
Me: I'm really sorry. I just don't do that. How long is it going to be?
Lady in Window: It's going to be about 4-5 minutes for your chicken to be done.
Me: I'm in the drive thru and you want me to wait 5 minutes for my food?
Lady in Window: Walks away and says to someone inside (she said she's not pulling up).
At this point several people walked by the window to steal sideways glances at me. Were they wondering if I had three eyes or something? Or trying to remember me for next time?
I didn't pull forward. They brought my food. It didn't take five minutes.
Here's the thing. I'm not really that much of a jerk. If a manager or even the same Lady in Window had come back to the window and said, "Look, we are really, really sorry but tonight is super crazy because of this promotion we have going on. I have X coupons for you for the trouble and I'll personally bring your food to your car as soon as it is ready," I might have just pulled forward. Even without the coupon.
I'm not willing to accept sub-par service. I don't have to accept everything someone says to me as just the way it is. I can kindly say, "no thank you," and still be treated kindly and fairly. We didn't order anything out of the ordinary, or in any special way. If I was going to do that, I would go in. I am a reasonable customer. I expect to be treated reasonably by people I am paying for service.
Guess what? The fries were cold. They would have been really great after five more minutes, eh?

It's Thursday
That's really all I've got today. It's snowing. Sarah has her checkup this afternoon. We'll see how big she really is. All I know is that my back is sore from carrying her around.
And it's cold. Nine degrees currently. The boys were thrilled about that because anything below sixteen degrees means inside recess. Why they like inside recess more than outside is beyond me. Good news is that spring is coming. Don't look at me that way. It is.
